20 thg 2, 2023 · As a reminder, Kiwix is an offline reader: once you download your zim file (Wikipedia, StackOverflow or whatever) you can browse it without any further need for internet connectivity. There's much talk that one could fit Wikipedia into 21 Gb, but that would be a text-only, compressed and unformatted (ie not human readable) dump.

20 thg 9, 2023 · Downloading Wikipedia is great and all, but it has little useful information in case of emergency. Actually a lot of coverage of everyday subjects is kind of bad because there are fewer easily accessible reliable sources, those articles don't get as many good edits as more academic subjects do.

23 thg 12, 2022 · Don't donate to Wikipedia, the people that do the actual work don't get paid at all, donate to them instead, Wikipedia gets plenty of donations from corporations and such. Wikipedia's own creator says you shouldn't trust Wikipedia in an article, with their history erasing / manipulation and political bias no one should.

6 thg 8, 2023 · There used to be an under 4gb zip file of all of Wikipedia text that was used on an offline Wikipedia device called wikireader. It was able to browse and pull directly from the zip file with out uncompressing it all.
